Enter Into Prayer with the Servite Family

Welcome to the Servite Secular Order Prayer Book, a sacred treasury of prayers that unites us in devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows and in the life of prayer, contemplation, and service to which we are called. This collection embodies the centuries-old tradition of the Servite Order, rooted in profound reverence for the sufferings of Christ and His Blessed Mother, the Queen of Sorrows.

From the solemn recitation of the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows to the deeply moving Via Matris, our prayers invite you to walk with Mary in her sorrow, to intercede for the suffering members of Christ’s Body, and to deepen your relationship with God through the Servite spirit of compassion, fraternity, and loving service.

Whether you are a member of the Servite Secular Order, a devout Catholic seeking deeper Marian devotion, or someone drawn to the mysteries of the faith, this prayer book offers a path of union with Christ through Mary’s sorrow and triumph.

Join us in prayer. Let us lift our voices together, contemplating the mysteries of redemption, offering reparation for the sins of the world, and seeking the intercession of our Sorrowful Mother as we serve the Church and all of humanity.

May Our Lady, Servant of the Lord, keep you always under her mantle. Servite Domino in laetitia! (Serve the Lord with joy!)

Consecration to Our Lady of Sorrows

Consecration is an act of entrustment; one does not lose one’s freedom but rather freely chooses Mary as a pathway to deeper communion with Christ. It is done with the understanding that all graces come from God, with Mary as a mediator in accordance with God's will. It is a spiritual exercise that is entirely voluntary and is undertaken to enrich one's Christian life.

Importance of Consecration to Our Sorrowful Mother:

1. Sharing in Mary’s Suffering:

Consecrating oneself to Mary’s Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart is a way to share in her sufferings and thus to participate more fully in the redemptive suffering of Christ. By uniting one's own pains with Mary's sorrows, the faithful can find a path to spiritual maturity.

2. Spiritual Maternity:

Mary is considered the Spiritual Mother of all Christians, and consecration to her is an acknowledgement of this spiritual maternity, allowing her to guide the faithful more closely to her Son and to care for their spiritual well-being.

3. Imitation of Christ:

In the Gospel of John, Jesus entrusts the disciple John to Mary, symbolically giving her to all believers as a mother (John 19:26-27). Consecration to Mary follows this biblical example, seeking to imitate Christ in his entrusting of oneself to Mary.

4. Model of Discipleship:

Mary is the first and most perfect disciple of Christ and thus is a model to all Christians. Consecration to Mary is seen as a commitment to follow her example in saying "yes" to God's will.

5. Increased Grace:

Consecration is believed to open one's heart more fully to the graces God offers, with Mary as an intermediary who brings us closer to Christ.

6. Spiritual Protection:

Devotion to Mary and consecration to her Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart are also associated with protection against the influence of evil, as her role in the battle between good and evil is highlighted in Scripture and Tradition.

7. Aids in Holiness:

Mary’s entire life was dedicated to Jesus, and in consecrating oneself to her, the faithful seek her aid in their journey towards holiness and in conforming their lives to Christ.

8. Evangelical Virtues:

Mary exemplifies the virtues of poverty, obedience, and virginity—the evangelical counsels—and consecration to her helps the faithful to grow in these virtues.

Consecration Prayers

Consecration to Our Sorrowful Mother

Most holy Virgin and Queen of Martyrs, Mary, would that I could be in Heaven, there to contemplate the honors rendered to thee by the Most Holy Trinity and by the whole Heavenly Court! But since I am still a pilgrim in this vale of tears, receive from me, thy unworthy servant and a poor sinner, the most sincere homage and the most perfect act of vassalage a human creature can offer thee.

In thy Immaculate Heart, pierced with so many swords of sorrow, I place today my poor soul forever; receive me as a partaker in thy dolors, and never suffer that I should depart from that Cross on which thy only begotten Son expired for me.

With thee, O Mary, I will endure all the sufferings, contradictions, infirmities, with which it will please thy Divine Son to visit me in this life. All of them I offer to thee, in memory of the Dolors which thou didst suffer during thy life, that every thought of my mind, every beating of my heart may henceforward be an act of compassion to thy Sorrows, and of complacency for the glory thou now enjoyest in Heaven. Since then, O Dear Mother, I now compassionate thy Dolors, and rejoice in seeing thee glorified, do thou also have compassion on me, and reconcile me to thy Son Jesus, that I may become thy true and loyal son (daughter); come on my last day and assist me in my last agony, even as thou wert present at the Agony of thy Divine Son Jesus, that from this painful exile I may go to Heaven, there to be made partaker of thy glory.

Amen.

Consecration to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary

“O Lord Jesus, Who on Calvary and in the Holy Eucharist has shown Yourself to us as
the God of Love and Mercy, kneeling humbly at Your feet we adore You and beg once more for Your forgiveness and Your divine pity. And remembering that by Your own act on Calvary, the human race, represented by Your beloved disciple John, gained a Mother in the Virgin of Sorrows, we desire to honor the sufferings and woes of our Mother's Heart by devoting ourselves to it in solemn Consecration. It is but just, O Mary, that our souls should strive henceforth to venerate you with special homage under the title of your Sorrowful Heart, a title won by sharing in the whole Passion of your Son and thus co-operating in the work of our redemption - a title due to thee in justice, and dear, we believe, to Jesus and to your own Heart, torn by the wound in His.

We consecrate therefore, O Mary, to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart ourselves, our families, our country and those who are fighting for its honor. Have pity on us; see our tribulations, and the anguish of our hearts in the midst of the mourning and calamities that lay waste the world. Deign, O Mother of God, to obtain mercy for us that, being converted and purified by sorrow, and made strong in faith, we may henceforth be devoted servants of Jesus Christ and His Church, for whose triumph we pray. O Mary Immaculate, we promise to be faithful clients of your Sorrowful Heart. Intercede for us, we beseech you, with your Son that, at the cry of your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, His Divine Power may speedily bring to pass the triumph of right and justice.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have pity on us.

Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us and save us.”

Amen.
